A 1977 Cadillac Seville sedan is up for auction at Bonhams auction house. Curiously, the first owner of this Cadillac was none other than Elvis Presley. The King of Rock and Roll bought the luxury car a few weeks before his tragic death in August 1977. During his lifetime, the American performer was a die-hard Cadillac fan, and according to the most modest estimates, Presley bought at least two hundred cars of this brand during his lifetime. And the Cadillac Seville in question from the auction is the last one on the list.
After the death of Elvis, for almost half a century this Cadillac Seville changed its owners several times. The sedan was part of the Elvis Presley Museum collection and was first auctioned 30 years ago. In recent years, however, the car was hidden from public view. Now it has come out of the blue, but according to the people at Bonhams, it is not working and needs investment. At the same time, it is only 58 thousand miles (93 thousand kilometers).
Along with the car, the buyer will receive a complete set of documents that prove the car's history. It has a certificate of authenticity from the Elvis Presley Museum, photos and other artifacts. A special feature of the Cadillac Seville is the custom bodywork from the Fisher company. No obvious damage or corrosion, but without a 1977 restoration, the sedan looks "tired": there is surface rust underneath, scratches and wear. The light skin and shaggy door skins don't look very neat.
Elvis Presley's Cadillac, however, is unlikely to be used as intended: it is more a symbol of the era, a testament to the legacy of the King of Rock and Roll. Bidding will begin in two days. Bonhams refrains from making predictions, but two years ago a 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood owned by the singer was sold at auction for €77,000.
