In China, owners of the ultra-luxury electric car Maextro S800 - the first model developed by Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Driving division in conjunction with the premium brand Maextro - made an unexpected discovery. It turned out that the car uses self-healing tires, a feature that has not been publicly mentioned until now. One owner even posted a video demonstrating how a wheel punctured by a screw does not lose pressure after the foreign object is removed and the tire is re-inflated, eliminating the need for immediate replacement.

The principle of operation of these tires is based on a special layer of viscous polymer material, such as butyl rubber or polyurethane composite, which is applied to the inside of the tread. When the tire is punctured, this sealant automatically wraps around the object that caused the damage. Once the object is removed, the material self-seals the hole thanks to its elastic structure and high density, preventing air leakage. This technology allows the driver to avoid the need to immediately stop or evacuate the vehicle, providing additional peace of mind and safety.

It is important to note that these tires are not ordinary Run-Flat tires, which allow a limited distance to be traveled after a puncture. They are of a much more technologically complex and expensive design. They are usually installed only on premium and luxury cars, the price of which exceeds one million yuan, which is approximately 137,000 US dollars.

Thus, Huawei not only made a strong debut in the electric car market thanks to its design, technologies and autonomous driving systems, but also implemented innovative components in the Maextro S800 that improve the daily operation of the car without creating unnecessary publicity. Now it becomes clear that the manufacturer has decided not to advertise all the features at once, leaving certain elements as “pleasant surprises“ for future owners.
