Kazakhstan and Serbia will cooperate in the mining and processing of critical raw materials needed for high-tech industries. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced this to reporters after talks with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic, who is on an official visit to Astana.
„Special emphasis is placed on energy and industry. We agreed to join forces in the mining and advanced processing of critical raw materials for the development of high-tech industries“, the Kazakh president said.
Tokayev said that Kazakhstan is committed to partnership with Serbia in the agricultural sector. „Joint projects in crop and seed production are a priority. Serbian company Mambikom Agrar has expressed interest in establishing a frozen food production enterprise in our country. We believe that its launch will bring cooperation in the agro-industrial complex to a qualitatively new level," he said, assuring that Astana is ready to create favorable conditions for Serbian entrepreneurs.
Tokayev also noted that approximately 60 Serbian companies are currently operating in Kazakhstan, but "economic opportunities allow us to achieve more". "Last year, direct flights were launched between Astana and Belgrade, which was an important step towards deepening bilateral cooperation. During the talks, we also discussed the possibilities of effectively using the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor and launching new logistics routes. Cooperation in infrastructure development was another topic of conversation. The relevant agencies and operators are tasked with defining specific working formats,” the Kazakh president said.
Vučić is on an official visit to Astana on February 26-27. Following the talks with Tokayev, a joint statement was adopted and 10 memorandums were signed between the relevant agencies of the two countries. In 2025-2026, Kazakhstan is actively promoting cooperation with various countries in the field of critical raw materials. In particular, agreements on cooperation in this area were previously reached with the United States and a roadmap for cooperation was signed with the United Kingdom.
