Peskov: Russia is not trying to defeat the dollar - 1

The US dollar is one of the world's currencies. Russia is not trying to defeat him, there is no need. “This currency is one of the largest economies in the world. And, unfortunately, this world economy, well, probably stupidly, made a mistake and started making weapons out of dollars. It's their fault. They simply did not understand the consequences,” said the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, Russia is not doing anything against the dollar, but is protecting its interests. "We're not doing this for the dollar, we're doing it for ourselves, we're doing it for our partners. And that is why we, along with a number of countries, have already started using national currencies and we do the lion's share of our mutual payments in local currencies, in national currencies. And this process is also irreversible, it will only expand and many countries like it more and more, said Peskov.

According to him, this process is already underway in the world as an attempt to create more alternatives that should add reliability to the global financial system.

Using the dollar as a political weapon against Russia is causing concern among other countries. Other countries understand that the same can happen to them. "Of course, not all countries are yet ready for close cooperation in terms of creating some kind of payment systems. But on the other hand, all countries, in one way or another, understand that in our time, when, for example, the world reserve currency, the US dollar, begins to be used as a political weapon against us, or when the SWIFT payment system begins to be used as weapon in the attempts to suppress one of the countries of the world, in this case the Russian Federation, everyone understands that this can happen to anyone. And countries, of course, are increasingly beginning to think about the need for backup, alternative methods of making payments. And an alternative money transfer system”, said Peskov.

According to him, such talks are currently being held. “And these talks are taking place precisely within the framework of this very irreversible vector we talked about”, added Peskov.
