Gas consumption in Germany during the current heating season - from October to December - increased by 5.8% compared to the same period in 2023; the authorities are urging Germans to continue saving on it. This was reported by the Funke media group with reference to the Federal Network Agency of Germany.
“In any case, it is still worth saving fuel further and thus reducing the burden on your own wallet“, said the head of the regulator, Klaus Müller. He specified that gas storage facilities in Germany are already about 80% full.
At the same time, for the period from October to December 2024 gas consumption is 9.7% lower than the average for 2018-2021.
Germany is gradually switching to renewable energy sources, abandoning coal-fired power plants and closing nuclear power plants. It is planned to achieve complete climate neutrality by 2045. Initially, during the transition period, the emphasis was on Russian energy resources, primarily gas. Germany began to refuse supplies of resources from the Russian Federation after the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
