Canada has drawn up a list of US goods worth $105 billion on which it will impose tariffs if US President-elect Donald Trump carries out his threat to approve a 25% tariff on all Canadian goods, Bloomberg reported, citing its sources.
According to them, Ottawa will not be the first to take this step and will only introduce tariffs in response to the actions of the Trump administration. The list of goods compiled by Canada is preliminary and may be supplemented later.
Earlier, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly saidthat Ottawa is ready to stop supplies of electricity and energy resources to the US if Trump introduces a 25% tariff. Canada exports about 60% of its oil to the United States, as well as 85% of its electricity.
Canada, Mexico and the United States are bound by a trilateral agreement that includes the creation of a free trade area between these countries. However, on November 25, Trump announced that on his first day as president he would impose a 25% tariff on all goods from Canada and Mexico in connection with illegal immigration and drug smuggling.
