Hail destroyed nearly 80% of the record autumn crops in the Haskovo villages. The reason for the great damage is that the anti-hail system in the region was not effective, as no missiles were fired from some sites at all, farmers say.
They said that 80% of their crops were destroyed. Sunflowers, wheat and cotton will not be harvested.
They do not have insurance, but some have prepared documents for such, the hail surprises them, and they do not succeed.
Cotton and sunflowers can be planted again, but there are no funds, say the affected people. They want answers as to why the anti-hail system failed to cope with the disaster.
The farmers want the number of sites to be increased. The Hail Control Agency says they have done everything possible to reduce the damage.
They explained that they fired 380 rockets, aiming them at where the hail is forming, because there is no point in doing this in the rainy part. The goal is to reduce the damage and the size of the falling hail, they specify.
However, people do not feel this. Whether the state will compensate them remains to be seen.
