Wine production in France has suffered a collapse, according to a Vinetur report. According to data for 2024, the country produced 37 million hectoliters of the drink, which is almost a quarter (23 percent) less than the previous year.

Producers explain this dynamics with weather conditions. Last spring, the country had prolonged rains, which were replaced by late frosts. As a result, almost all wine-growing regions were affected: from Champagne to Jura.

The decline did not seriously affect exports: the volume of deliveries even increased by 0.7%, reaching 11.17 million hectoliters. But the volume of deliveries to China has dropped noticeably by as much as 17 percent - experts attribute this to the problems in the Chinese economy and the possible purchase of wine from Australia.

A decrease in wine production was also reported in the United States. Last year, the country produced 21.1 million hectoliters of the drink, which is 17.2 percent less than in 2023. In addition, consumers in a number of countries have reduced wine consumption, with total wine demand amounting to 214 million hectoliters in 2024. Analysts point to rising prices for the drink and economic difficulties in certain regions as the reason for this.
