“There is tension, but I do not see a major crack in the majority in parliament. It remains monolithic. The problem is rather in the lack of awareness and proposals for a solution to the issue of the conquered state“, commented political scientist Daniel Smilov in the studio of “Offensive”.
On Thursday, the entrances to the parliament were blocked to force the leaders of the ruling majority to pass on foot. The action was organized by the PP-DB and sparked a wide discussion about the state of the state and the functioning of the institutions.
He explained that a “state with a capital D“ means a system in which the institutions serve the ruling party. “This is not good for Bulgaria. The existence of such a model leads to the creation of dependencies and networks that are built over the years of power“, added the political scientist.
Smilov pointed out that the actions of former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov – his refusal to participate in the vote of no confidence – show a desire to distance himself from the government, but remain more theatrical than substantial.
The PP-DB action, according to the expert, proved effective mainly because of Delyan Peevski's reaction. “He demonstrated that the state depends on him, which was clear from his body language and behavior. The action itself was successful because of this, and not because of the number of people blocking the entrances to the parliament,“ Smilov explained.
The political scientist also stressed the importance of peaceful protests and warned against the use of political violence and repression.
Regarding the future of the urban right and the presidential elections, Smilov noted that the task of the pro-European opposition is to offer an alternative that does not reconcile with corrupt practices and has a clear pro-European orientation.
“Forums like this support the process by uniting different people around two basic principles: Atlantic orientation and solving the problem of the conquered country,“ he also said.
Smilov also commented on the arrest of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev. According to him, Kotsev should not be in prison.
