The tension in the Bulgarian parliament has reached new dimensions, said political analysts Vesselin Stoynev and Nidal Algafari in the program "In Focus" on NOVA.
Stoynev commented that Delyan Peevski's nervous reaction was provoked by the protests in Sofia. “Ten people cannot close the center of Sofia. Dozens of police officers were brought in to provide a cordon so that Peevski could enter”, he said.
Algafari also believes that the reason is the increased tension. “In my opinion, Delyan Peevski irritated him that some people closed Sofia and imagined that they could dictate their wishes to the capital, and not so much that they did not allow him to enter parliament”, he said.
The two analysts noted that Prime Minister Boyko Borisov condemned the harsh tone, but also that Peevski is a key factor in the stability of the government. “Borisov is right that one cannot speak like that. On the other hand, Peevski was offended because he knows that if it were not for him, the government would have fallen if the APS had withdrawn”, commented Algafari.
Stoynev added that the attraction of people from GERB to “DPS-New Beginning” is a signal of expanding Peevski's influence. Algafari, however, does not believe that this will lead to a significant outflow of voters from GERB. “It is not a big problem. “DPS-New Beginning” cannot melt GERB, but this is precisely what can be understood, when there are elections”, he commented.
According to Stoynev, the prime minister's quick reaction to a letter from Peevski showed who the real prime minister is. “After the vote, Peevski demonstrated that he is the real prime minister – he sent a letter to the prime minister, and he answered him quickly”, he pointed out.
”He asked one of the most pressing questions, so the prime minister answered him quickly”, commented Algaffari.
”There is no way they will succeed in overthrowing the government. They rather want to work for the presidential elections”, Algaffari believes.
