Dimitar Ganev: The hard cores are the ones that currently hold the main parties, including GERB - 1

The political analyst from „Trend“ Dimitar Ganev believes that possible early parliamentary elections would give a serious advantage to President Rumen Radev, if he decides to create his own political project. According to him, this scenario would put the head of state in the most favorable situation to channel the high levels of public trust in the institution.

„It is one thing to attack parliamentary elections from the position of an incumbent president, it is another to wait for the end of your mandate and then create a party“, Ganev emphasized on Nova TV. According to him, in a regular vote, Radev would face a much more difficult task, especially in local elections, where the traditionally established structures of GERB and MRF have a serious advantage.

At the same time, the latest survey by “Trend“ reports an erosion of trust in the government, but without dramatic collapses. GERB-SDF maintains stable positions with 26.4% and the first force in the political spectrum. “The erosion comes not from their sympathizers, but from the periphery and partly from their partners in government“, the political scientist specified.

The great tension in society remains related to high prices and inflation, which for a year and a half have invariably been the No. 1 problem according to respondents. “This accumulates protest potential, which sooner or later will spill out – "either on the street or at the ballot box," Ganev believes.

According to him, the hard cores are the ones that currently hold the main parties, including GERB, which is precisely why there are no sharp changes in the picture. However, a curious dynamic is being observed with the MRF - "MPS - New Beginning" is gaining support mainly at the expense of the APS, which shows a clear reorientation of the electorate.

In conclusion, Ganev noted that a possible party of Radev would have potential, since the president is among the most approved figures in politics. "Whether it will become the first force depends on the time and conditions under which it will appear. But if there are early elections - then it will be in the strongest position," said the political scientist.
