Spouses were detained for a false bomb alert at the “Vasil Levski“ Airport in Sofia, the Ministry of Interior announced.
On the evening of October 2 at the “Sofia Airport“ border checkpoint, a female voice reported via telephone 112 that an explosive device had been placed on the plane on a flight to Luton, Great Britain.
The mandatory actions were immediately taken to strengthen security measures, including additional forces from the Sofia Police Station, the “Special Tactical Actions“ sector at the Airports Police Department and the “Security“ directorate at the airport. No explosive device was found.
During the search activities, the border police officers established that the message was submitted by a 52-year-old woman from Tvarditsa. Her 57-year-old husband was with her.
They made the malicious call because they were not allowed on the flight to Luton, as they were late and arrived after the boarding of the plane had been completed.
Thanks to the quick operational actions of the border police officers, the two were detained at Terminal 1. A prosecutor has been notified and the case is under investigation.
