The Municipality of Tsarevo is preparing a list of necessary measures and objects damaged in the torrential rains, which will be submitted shortly to the Interdepartmental Commission for Disasters and Accidents.
This was announced by the press center of the Municipality, quoted by BTA.
They remind that during the disaster in 2023, the damage exceeded 80 million leva, and the state allocated 42 million leva, without providing funds for serious activities in the riverbeds and ravines.
All facilities built after the disaster in 2023 have withstood the water pressure in the last hours, with only peripheral violations in the pavements around them being identified. The main focus of the upcoming actions is the work on the bed of the Cherna River, where the construction of dams is planned in order to limit spills during the expected new rainfall on Tuesday.
Municipal teams are intensively cleaning all settlements. The Municipality calls on residents for patience and understanding.
"I personally call for no speculation – in both the previous and current mandates, actions were taken to fundamentally correct the bed of the Cherna River, but no state funding was allocated", said the Mayor of Tsarevo Marin Kirov, quoted by the press center.
Since 2023, all ravines, riverbeds and dangerous areas have been cleaned repeatedly. According to the local administration, an "unprecedented water element" is being observed, against which the outdated infrastructure, designed decades ago, is having difficulty resisting.
Residents and guests of the region were promptly notified of the expected deterioration of the meteorological situation by the District Administration, municipalities, institutions and the media at the beginning of the week. The Tsarevo Municipality defines as "inappropriate" speculations about the effectiveness of the BG-Alert system.
The call to all citizens is to be careful and, if necessary, seek assistance from competent officials.
