It is completely unacceptable for any politician to think that we can import doctors. Medicine is a controlled profession. Young residents have the right to worry about how they will enter the profession and whether they will be able to meet their needs. This was stated by the deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Association (BLS), Dr. Ivan Madzharov, in the program “The Day Live“ on Nova news, quoted by novini.bg.
Politicians are transferring young doctors to other institutions. The right approach is that every institution can contribute to increasing the income of young doctors. If everyone takes on their functions, we can guarantee young people a perspective, he emphasized.
We need to use the energy of young people to solve problems that have been stuck in time. Let's show the real problems, Madzharov urged.
The Deputy Chairman of the Bulgarian Medical Association also commented on the topic of the size of the health contribution. “How is it that in the EU our contribution is the lowest, and yet we are asked to be at the level of European practices? Our health contribution is 8%, while in the EU it is 11-14%. In this respect, we are poor“.
“Expectations for growth in the NHIF budget for 2026 will not be large. Last year's budget passed without increasing the prices of medical services. Next year, it is also expected to be either non-existent or to increase slightly. The news is not good. There is no way that all hospitals will survive. No director wants to pay low salaries, but the opportunities are there. Staff are looking for better pay and are changing hospitals. Every day there are staff who leave“, warned Dr. Madzharov.
“There is no way we can survive with these contributions. The economic situation is such that we will force the National Assembly to make a decision to increase health contributions, if not this year, then next“, he also said.
