The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEWR) has determined the compensations for September 2025, which will cover part of the costs of household customers for electricity purchased from end suppliers.
The compensations are part of the new mechanism for supporting households, introduced with the latest amendments to the Energy Act. It aims to ensure predictability of household electricity bills regardless of fluctuations in prices on the exchange market.
As of July 1, 2025, the wholesale electricity market has been fully liberalized. However, the price for households remains fixed for a one-year period and is determined by the regulator. At the same time, suppliers are obliged to buy electricity from the exchange at market prices, which in September were higher than the set base value of 140.03 BGN/MWh.
To compensate for this difference, KEWR provides financial support to end suppliers through the “Electricity System Security“ Fund. The funds are reported in advance in consumers' invoices. When calculating the amount of compensation, the regulator applies control mechanisms aimed at preventing unfair practices by companies.
The determined compensations for the period 1-30 September 2025 are as follows:
- 49.12 BGN/MWh excluding VAT – for clients of “Electrohold Sales“ EAD;
- 49.55 BGN/MWh excluding VAT – for the clients of „EVN Bulgaria Electricity Supply“ EAD;
- 49.55 BGN/MWh excluding VAT – for the clients of „ENERGO-PRO Sales“ AD;
- 49.39 BGN/MWh excluding VAT – for the clients of „ESP Golden Sands“ OOD.
