Over 93 thousand square meters of sidewalks have been renovated in Sofia from the beginning of this year until the end of October. About 17 million leva have been invested. Complete repairs have been carried out on existing sidewalks, with new unipavement and/or asphalt concrete pavements laid.

The activities are carried out by the Sofia Municipality and the districts under the municipality's program. Construction and renovation works continue, and currently about 60 thousand sq. m of sidewalks have been commissioned.

Over the three-year period of the program, by the end of this year, a total of over 440 thousand sq. m will be renovated.

“The renovation of sidewalks is part of our overall vision for a better urban environment. Sidewalks connect people, schools, parks and businesses. When we make sidewalks better, we make Sofia more accessible, calmer and more beautiful.“. This was said by the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev.

Next year, the activities under the program will continue. At the same time, with the implementation of the capital projects of the municipality, we are committed to building new sidewalks and rehabilitating existing ones in order to increase the opportunities for renovation of the urban environment, announced Deputy Mayor Nikola Lyutov.

Construction teams worked on the territory of the 24 metropolitan districts. Sidewalks were repaired in the Mladost district on "prof. Alexander Teodorov-Balan", in Pancharevo on Tsar Boris III Street, in Oborishte on Cherkovna Street, Vasil Levski Blvd, in Lyulin on Tsaritsa Yoanna Blvd, in Vrabnitsa on Beli Dunav Street, in Lozenets on Velchova Zavera Square, Persenk Street, in Slatina on Maragidik Street, Kalimantsi Street, etc.

The busiest sidewalks in the districts of Sofia Municipality are being rehabilitated. Pavements are being renovated next to public and socially significant buildings such as kindergartens and nurseries, schools, polyclinics, hospitals, parks and public transport stops, as well as in inter-block spaces. Along with the renovation of the sidewalks, an accessible environment, lowering of curbs (where possible), as well as guiding and tactile strips are being implemented.

At the proposals of the district mayors, the surrounding block areas have been renovated in combination with other financing mechanisms developed by the Sofia Municipality. The volume of activities in the different districts is distributed depending on the area of the sidewalks and the number of its residents.
