From Monday, December 1, the low-emission zone for cars in Sofia comes into effect.
The zone is in effect until February 28, 2026. What is new is that this season the ban covers, in addition to the “small ring“, a wider territorial scope - the so-called “large ring“, writes BNT.
The small ring, for which a ban on entry of cars from the first and second eco-groups applies, covers the territory between the boulevards: “Vasil Levski“, “Patriarch Evtimiy“, “Gen. Skobelev“, “Slivnitsa“ and Opalchenska St.
The large ring, which is prohibited from entering only the most polluting cars from the first eco-group, is "locked between": Slivnitsa Blvd.; Danail Nikolaev Blvd.; Sitnyakovo Blvd.; Mihai Eminescu Blvd.; Peyo Yavorov Blvd.; Nikola Vaptsarov Blvd.; Atanas Dukov Blvd.; Lyuba Velichkova Blvd.; Srebarna Blvd.; Henrik Ibsen Blvd.; P. Yu. Todorov Blvd.; „Ivan Ev. Geshov“; „K. Velichkov“ blvd.
The border boulevards are not part of the low-emission zone and the passage of all vehicles along them is allowed without restriction, and signposts will help drivers navigate the traffic.
180 cameras located at the outer points of the two rings will monitor whether the ban is being observed.
