After numerous protests in Sofia and other major cities, the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov resigned. What lies ahead in the coming months after this quick exit from power? Political scientist Prof. Rumyana Kolarova and sociologist Elena Darieva commented on the topic in the program "Intersection Point" on Nova TV, quoted by novini.bg.
According to Kolarova, the government's resignation is a categorical political statement that clearly indicates that there will be no negotiations for a new coalition majority. She predicts that the elections will probably be held before March 22.
„This was a categorical statement that Borisov is in fact the person who dominates this majority, because everyone saw that Delyan Peevski was surprised. So, I guess, this is what he meant when he said that they will not be attacked on the back. Especially this whole campaign, where Peevski was labeled as such… I guess that’s what really annoys Borisov,” added Kolarova.
Sociologist Elena Darieva pointed out that the resignation has a strong impact on the image of the ruling party.
„The issue of image and image damage is really very serious. The resignation was a strategic move, because it was the only useful move for the ruling party after the large-scale protests showed that trust in them had been exhausted. The pressure was too serious not to receive some kind of response“, commented Darieva.
She added that the consequences on trust in the ruling party will be difficult to overcome.
„In my opinion, we are moving steadily towards the next early elections, as long as after the applications "The political leaders' statement that they will not seek a new formula in the current National Assembly is a clear sign that once the constitutional procedure begins, we are heading for new elections," Darieva explained.
The sociologist also noted that the election campaign has already begun.
