Against the backdrop of the turbulent political events of recent days - mass protests, resignation of the government and serious public tension - another bomb exploded in the public space. The head of the Fifth District Department and three other police officers in Sofia were arrested for patronizing a drug channel.
The topic was commented on in the program “In Focus“ on NOVA by investigative journalist Slavi Angelov. “I knew the chief from the time when he was in the auto theft sector of the Sofia police. I even interviewed him, he participated in my documentary. What is more interesting to me is that this will now be presented to us as a fight against crime and corruption. However, it may not be exactly like that“, added Angelov.
The journalist revealed that before the operation he was wanted with specific information about connections between the arrested police officer and a key figure in the drug world. “They tried to give me all this information about the connections of the Glassman, who controls a large part of the northern regions of Sofia, somewhere around 5-6 months ago. They wanted me to publish this information in order to deal with him in some way“, he explained.
According to him, this is not an isolated case. “In the past, there have been many cases in which I have published various investigations, including against such new figures in the drug world of Sofia, after which these people were arrested. These are not police circles. These are competitors of this drug dealer, let's call him," he specified. Hence his most serious doubt about the current operation. "In fact, this operation is a settling of scores with him," Angelov said.
Slavi Angelov criticizes the way the Ministry of Interior reports on its activities. According to him, the current Minister of Interior "is certainly a much more moral person than some of his predecessors were," but this is not enough. He added that "the Ministry of Interior has not done anything special regarding drugs in Bulgaria."
