Bulgaria is proud of its Jewish community, said the MP from "Continuing Change - Democratic Bulgaria" Yavor Bojankov at the candle lighting ceremony for the Festival of Light – Hanukkah, at the Central Sofia Synagogue.
Our people are proud that in the darkest moments of human history they stood on the side of good and light. The rescue of Bulgarian Jews created a bond that cannot be broken, Bojankov said.
Today's holiday of light is overshadowed by yet another act of aggression and anti-Semitism, the MP said, referring to the shooting in Sydney earlier today, where at least 11 people were killed.
For many, the lessons of history have not been learned and therefore risk repeating themselves. And today, once again, our people are on the side of good, Bojankov said, BTA reports.
