Early on Saturday morning, a driver called 112 and said that on the road between Kostenets and Ihtiman, a car was swerving and hitting other cars.

Assen Mikyurlov, "Road Control", Ihtiman Police Station: "At the "Muhovo" road junction we noticed the car in question because we had the license plate, but the car was traveling towards Kostenets."

Then the winding road changed direction again, got on the "Trakia" highway and again went down the road to Kostenets.

Asen Mikyurlov, "Road Control", Ihtiman Police Station: "When he saw us, he pulled over to the right, locked the car and lay down at the driver's side.

- It's as if there's no one there?

- Yes, it's as if there's no one in the car."

A few minutes later, however, he unlocked the car.

Asen Mikyurlov, "Road Control", Ihtiman Police Station: "We took him out. He was invited to take an alcohol test, he was visibly intoxicated. And the breathalyzer showed 3.84."

It also turned out that the drunk did not have a driver's license. According to traffic police, it is increasingly common for drunk drivers to be stopped on the roads between small settlements.

Stefan Neychev, "Road Control", RPU "Ihtiman": "When we see that there is some kind of irregularity, also winding on the road - we stop them with a light and sound signal and carry out an inspection."

Due to travel for the upcoming holidays, more uniformed officers will be on the roads and will monitor for violations.

The "Traffic Police" recommend traveling mainly during the daylight hours, when the risk of icing is lower. They call for keeping a safe distance and avoiding risky overtaking in heavy traffic.
