Animal rights activists are organizing a protest in front of the Military Medical Academy from 12 noon today for the reinstatement of Dr. Nenad Tsonevski, who last year ran over the street dog Maya with a car.
According to the organizers of the demonstration, anyone who intentionally kills a living being has no place in healthcare, and the protest is against violence and impunity.
"We want the Bulgarian Medical Association to take action, as they have a Code of Ethics, which was certainly violated in this case, and we believe that Dr. Nenad Tsonevski's medical rights should be revoked. We have a petition on the issue, which has already collected over 10,100 signatures in about a week. We will submit them to them very soon.
The other thing we want is, of course, for the person to be removed from the Military Medical Academy, since this is a state hospital. We believe that such a person, who killed an animal and who is currently accused, has no place working in a medical institution, especially in a reputable medical institution like the Military Medical Academy. We want the Military Medical Academy management to remove him at least until the investigation is completed," said Zlatin Mladenski from the "Mecho i prijatelji" association, adding that the activists are also demanding faster action by the prosecutor's office.
For "Horizont" The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office recalled that pre-trial proceedings were initiated on November 10 last year, with Nenad Tsonevski being held criminally liable for causing the death of the dog Maya and a "cash bail" detention measure imposed on him. The prosecutor's office specified that the investigation into the case is currently ongoing, and it is expected that all assigned expert reports will be included in the pre-trial proceedings.
