Georg Georgiev: Eurozone, Schengen, stabilization of public finances - everything we said, we achieved - 1

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and GERB representative Georg Georgiev commented in the studio of "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" on the composition of the new service cabinet, the scandals surrounding it and the current political situation.

Georgiev said that the government started with a serious political defect:

"This cabinet is obvious what it is. It is also obvious what problems it got involved in from its very start. The mission to which he declared that he would be dedicated failed in a very categorical and visible way for everyone."

As a main example, he pointed to the case of the resigned Deputy Prime Minister Stoil Tsitselkov:

"The personnel policy, for which the acting Prime Minister personally said that he takes responsibility, led us to the case of the resigned Deputy Prime Minister in just 24 hours."

According to him, it is particularly worrying that the EC has come out with information about a five-year suspension of the responsible person in question:

"The European Commission said it. Not a Bulgarian party, not the so-called backstage. This is very important."

Regarding the presence of figures associated with GERB, including Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov, Georgiev said:

"Mr. Zapryanov is clearly a person with an expert profile. He has also been in other caretaker governments, including those appointed by President Radev. He is an expert in GERB, but he is also an expert in military affairs in general."

He rejected the thesis that the cabinet is a "rehearsal" for a future coalition:

"Excuse me, but I am obviously not in it."

On the topic of the possible removal of the Prosecutor General, Georgiev said:

"I am not in a position to answer you. Majorities are needed for this. And a very large majority."

Regarding a future constitutional majority, including a formation around Rumen Radev, Georgiev commented:

"The composition of the next National Assembly will first have the task of electing a government. Then all other tasks."

Regarding allegations of tension between Boyko Borisov and Delyan Dobrev, Georgiev stated:

"The bad thing is that other parties are trying to project onto GERB what is happening within themselves."

And he added:

"We are a clearly structured party - with a role, functions, responsibilities and mission. Such speculations only create unnecessary noise."

Georgiev emphasized that GERB stands behind what has been accomplished in government:

"The Eurozone, Schengen, stabilization of public finances - everything we said, we achieved."

He also pointed to specific economic results:

"12 billion more collection in the budget. These are the black and white facts.

Regarding the investigation into the "Petrohan" case, Georg Georgiev called for restraint:

"Such cases require a very cold mind and expertise."

He expressed concern about possible personnel changes in the Ministry of Interior related to the case:

"The information that personnel changes are underway in the Ministry of Interior of people related to the case is worrying."

Regarding the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgiev expressed confidence in continuity:

"Bulgaria is a country - a member of the European Union and an ally in NATO, with a very clear geopolitical orientation."

Georgiev emphasized that the country remains a "structurally determining element in NATO's eastern flank" and called for calm on both security and sensitive domestic political issues.
