After the meeting of the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the party leader Krum Zarkov stated that the socialists are entering the upcoming elections with the ambition to restore the trust of left-wing voters and return strong left-wing representation in parliament. This is reported by news.bg
According to him, when arranging the lists, the party has complied with the decisions of the congress, including the principle that the people who made key decisions over the last year and a half should bear political responsibility.
"The people who made decisions over the last year and a half received their responsibility from the congress and we complied with this order," Zarkov stated. He added that he thanked some of them for the understanding they had shown. According to him, this is part of the renewal process in the party.
The BSP leader emphasized that despite the changes in the lists, the party has not set out to exclude its members. According to him, anyone who wants to work conscientiously for the cause of the socialists can continue to be part of the organization, but will not determine the party's decisions in the next period.
Zarkov also commented on the expectations for the election results. He admitted that the BSP started the campaign from a low base according to the sociological surveys, but emphasized that the trend, in his opinion, is upward.
"We will make every effort to fight for every vote and for every trust. Especially for those people who define themselves as leftists and who have been disappointed in recent years. We need their trust in order to return authentic left-wing representation to parliament," he said.
During his statement, the BSP leader also commented on the actions of the caretaker government in relation to the situation in the Middle East. According to him, the topic is extremely serious and requires a careful institutional approach.
"The situation is too important to be discussed hastily. Bulgarian institutions must closely monitor what is happening and provide clear and adequate information to citizens," said Zarkov. He noted that the appearance of military aircraft at the civil airport in Sofia has caused concern among people and these fears should not be ignored.
According to him, positions regarding the conflict should be developed at the European level and Bulgaria should strive for a clear common European position against the war.
The BSP leader also commented on the changes in the Ministry of Interior made by the caretaker cabinet. He pointed out that such personnel changes are not a precedent for a change in the political leadership, but stressed that the assessment will be given according to the results.
"There is an urgent need for fair elections in Bulgaria. Dishonest elections are leading us to a spiral of new elections," Zarkov said. He added that both institutions and political parties are responsible for this.
According to him, the BSP will carefully monitor the election process and will signal any irregularities through its representatives in the election commissions.
