From 8 a.m. today, the "Zheleznitsa" tunnel on the "Struma" highway will be closed to traffic for about 24 hours, the "Road Infrastructure" Agency (API) announced, quoted by bTV.
The reasons are testing and maintenance of the tunnel management system, which must be done twice a year.
It is planned that traffic will be allowed to resume at 8 a.m. on Thursday – March 12.
During the tests, traffic in both directions will be redirected along a bypass route on the I-1 Sofia - Kulata road.
Travelers in the Kulata direction will be diverted onto the I-1 road at the “Blagoevgrad South“ junction. on the Struma Motorway, at km 97, and cars moving towards Sofia will be diverted onto the first-class road at the junction at km 104 of the highway.
API apologizes to drivers for the inconvenience caused, specifying that the activities are necessary to guarantee safe travel on the section.
The Road Agency appeals to drivers to strictly observe the posted road signs and to drive carefully, keeping a safe distance, to drive at a reasonable speed and not to undertake risky overtaking.
