Neither the Prime Minister, nor the Minister of Defense, nor the Minister of Foreign Affairs have informed me about their upcoming visit to Ukraine, its purpose and the composition of the Bulgarian delegation. This was stated by President Iliana Yotova in connection with the trip of Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov to Kiev and the signing of a 10-year security agreement.
„In my opinion, this is an unacceptable violation of the dialogue between the institutions and a lack of institutional education. The signing of this agreement is inadequate, because the mandate of a service cabinet has a limited horizon and cannot fulfill it“, said Yotova.
According to her, the signing of international agreements should be done by a regular government after a discussion in parliament.
“So far, he has not contacted me, except for one phone call – I called yesterday, but we were unable to establish a connection for technological reasons. This morning I warned him that my reaction would be extremely harsh, I only received the text of the agreement in question today and at my insistence“, the president added.
Yotova described the document as weak and outdated – it does not take into account the current circumstances and the bifurcation of the war in Ukraine, as well as the interests of the Bulgarian defense industry.
The president also said that according to the text, there are no financial commitments. “In my opinion, this is a political act – poorly conceived and poorly executed”, she added.
