The GERB-SDF parliamentary group will support all three bills of "Progressive Bulgaria" related to the judiciary, but will insist on refining the texts before their final adoption. This was stated by MP Raya Nazaryan, emphasizing that the proposals contain useful, but temporary solutions, Nova TV reports.
“We will support all three bills that concern the structure of the judiciary. We welcome their timely consideration, albeit in a temporary legal committee“, she pointed out.
According to her, the main emphasis is on ensuring a transparent procedure in the election of members of the Supreme Judicial Council and its inspectorate. “It is important to ensure a transparent selection procedure“, said Nazaryan.
However, she warned that there are texts that need serious editing. “We have our own considerations regarding the wording of the texts, and we plan to refine them between the first and second votes“, said Nazaryan. According to her, the short deadlines did not allow for the gathering of opinions from the professional community.
Nazaryan also expressed concern about possible interference in the independence of the judiciary: “Let's not allow the legislative branch to interfere in the independent judiciary“. She emphasized that exceptions in the legislation pose a risk: “This extraordinary nature and these exceptions always lead to a bad rule“.
GERB-SDF insists that the constitutional framework be respected when selecting personnel in the judicial system. “The main thing is to focus on what the Constitution provides - a good assessment of professional and moral qualities“, she added.
For his part, Vladislav Goranov stated that the group would also support economic measures, despite his reservations.
“We will support any measure proposed by the National Assembly that makes the market function more perfectly“, he pointed out. At the same time, however, he emphasized: “We are skeptical about all proposals, but we will support them on the first vote“.
Goranov noted that most of the ideas are not new: “There is nothing new in the measures - a large part of them have been carried over from already existing legislation“.
He rejected the thesis that the introduction of the euro is a major factor in inflation. “We do not agree with the reasoning that this is the main inflation booster“, he said and added that the reasons lie elsewhere: “The mechanical increase in wages and expansionary fiscal policy lead to what is happening with prices“.
The former finance minister also criticized the previous government: “We must not forget that the previous government lived in TikTok“.
According to him, there is a discrepancy between the rapid adoption of laws and the postponement of by-laws. Goranov emphasized that the state has sufficient tools for intervention: “The legislation contains sufficient tools for the state to act“, but he warned that the state should not set prices.
