At the beginning of today's regular meeting of the Council of Ministers, the resigned Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov stated that in implementation of the government's management program, they will propose important changes to the Law on Medical Institutions.
The changes introduce a ban on the opening of new hospitals until the country's new health card is approved, Denkov specified.
"The national health map shows the real needs of people in different regions - where there is a need to open new hospital beds, where there is a need for more specialists and, accordingly, where the health fund needs to cover these needs. The last health card was made 6 years ago. In the current situation, where there is no limit to the opening of new hospitals, in some regions and areas we find ourselves with unnecessarily many hospital beds against the backdrop of a lack of staff, and in other areas people do not have access to health care. Therefore, in this mandate, the Ministry of Health started updating the national health card of Bulgaria. The next government can and should complete this process in about 2 months," the resigned Prime Minister pointed out.
The bill, which the government will approve today, will be submitted for a vote in the National Assembly.
He stated that in the remaining days they will mobilize all the efforts of the government to advance the most important decisions for the benefit of people and businesses.
“Health care is one of the key areas that should not fall victim to political instability,” said Academician Nikolay Denkov.
