An unregulated landfill has sprung up in the capital's “Botunets” district. Heaps of construction and household waste were dumped on green areas, BNT reported.
Exactly a month ago, while Hristo Ivanov was walking his dog, he discovered a huge amount of waste meters from a public transport stop.
„Yes, I found them by accident. After which we signaled, filed a complaint, but there was no result”, Hristo Ivanov – resident of gh.k. “Botunets“.
„We receive complaints continuously for the entire territory of Sofia. We have taken the necessary actions, both here and in other places, to find out what the status of the field is and accordingly to take the actions that we should start,” said engineer Nikolay Nedelkov – director of the Metropolitan Inspectorate.
On site we find construction and household waste, old equipment and unnecessary furniture.
„I assume that they are people who renovate their apartments, then hire companies and their fee is higher, and on account of that they have decided to throw it away here. This is the easier way”, said Hristo from “Botunets”.
„As you can see, the waste here is not domestic, in most cases it is construction and bulky. This is waste that is the result of repairs and it is not the kind that can be placed in or around household containers, construction containers must be rented for such waste, and accordingly the companies that operate with these construction containers do not prefer them to enter Vrazhdebna to pay a fee, and they find the most convenient place where they can throw them out, said Engineer Nedelkov.
The Metropolitan Municipality has discovered 242 landfills. Violators are subject to sanctions.
Fines start from BGN 300 to BGN 1,000 for individuals and BGN 1,400 to BGN 4,000 for legal entities. For unregulated transportation of earth masses and construction waste, the sanctions are from BGN 100 to BGN 1,000 for individuals and BGN 5,000 to BGN 50,000 for legal entities.
„If the terrains are private, they have a period of 30 days to be cleaned, if they are not cleaned - an act is drawn up to establish an administrative violation”, explained Nedelkov.
The Metropolitan Inspectorate has taken measures to remove the landfill in the “Botunets” district.
