The Defense Commission in the National Assembly unanimously agreed to increase the amount of the basic monthly remuneration for the military. The proposal was supported by all parliamentary groups, reports novini.bg.
After the changes in the Defense Law, the money of the military will be formed, but based on the average salary for the country for the second quarter of the previous year.
According to calculations, the salary increase will be close to 30%. 520 million BGN will be needed for this.
After the accepted increase, the basic salary for military personnel will increase from BGN 1,450 to BGN 2,200.
Changes to the Law on Defense and Armed Forces are expected to enter into force on January 1, 2025.
Analyses of the military show that the competitiveness of the military profession has fallen twice over the last 10 years.
The shortage of officers is 26.1%, officer candidates - 6.1%, sergeants/commissioned officers - 11.2% and soldiers/sailors - 27.6%, according to the latest defense report.
