< strong>A hole measuring approximately 30 by 40 cm has opened in the Bulgarian section of the Danube Bridge near Ruse. It is literally 100 meters from the beginning of the bridge in the direction of Romania, the Regional Administration of Ruse reported on their Facebook page.
Drivers of vehicles should drive at low speed and with caution in the section. The cause of the collapse is aging of the concrete on one of the panels, heavy traffic, as well as heavy rainfall in recent days. Due to the collapse during the night, seven cars had flat tires there. Immediately after the report was made to the director of the Regional Road Administration, engineer Stamen Savov, actions were taken to secure the area. The place is signaled and fenced with signs that indicate the problem area. Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov is aware of the situation, and in turn he has informed all competent institutions and is in constant contact with them in order to avoid more serious incidents on the bridge facility. The Regional Road Administration has already assigned the repair work to the road maintenance company, and first the dangerous hole will be filled with concrete and reinforced with metal elements, and then it will be asphalted. Repair works will actually start on the first working day after the holidays. At the moment, the time to pass through the facility has not been extended due to the accident. According to the regional governor, traffic on the bridge is currently running smoothly and there are no prerequisites for traffic delays due to the collapse. The necessary organization has been created to facilitate the drivers as much as possible.
Statistics show that in the last 24 hours alone, nearly 2,800 cars passed through the bridge facility in both directions, and traditionally a large part of them is heavy goods traffic.
