571,200 cigarettes (28,560 packs) were detained at the border crossing "Captain Andreevo" when inspecting a truck entering the country from Turkey. The case is within the anti-smuggling operation of the mixed teams of four institutions – "Customs" Agency, DG "Border Police", DG "Combating Organized Crime" and National Revenue Agency. The information was reported by the "Customs" Agency.
On May 1, a tractor with a semi-trailer with Turkish registration arrives at the point. The driver, a Turkish citizen, presents regular documents for the transported goods – 4 cutting machines, from Turkey to Germany. The vehicle was selected for thorough customs inspection, including with X-ray equipment, where suspicious densities were found in the transported cargo. During the subsequent physical inspection, after cutting the metal lids in the factory cavities of the machine casing, a total of 571,200 pieces (28,560 boxes) of cigarettes without a Bulgarian excise label were found. Excise goods worth BGN 179,928 have been seized.
In this case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office-Haskovo.
