The mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, proposed to create a temporary commission for the situation with the lifts of Vitosha during today's extraordinary meeting of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, broadcast by BTA.
The reason for the meeting is the clarification of the circumstances in the period 2007-2024, which led to the permanent suspension of the work of all the rope facilities providing access from Sofia to the Natural Park "Vitosha". p>
Terziev suggests that there should be one person from the administration to be in charge and coordinate the work, so that there is progress on the subject and even better synchronization with the institutions. He emphasized that there has been a problem with access to the mountain for many years. Many things have happened, many people have something to do with it, he commented and added that joint efforts are needed to solve the problem - of the judicial, executive and legislative authorities and the Metropolitan Municipal Council.
Regardless of what the history of the problem is, you certainly need to know what and how it happened in order to come up with a plan, the mayor said. He expressed hope that the municipal councilors will work together to reach a solution so that the Metropolitan Municipality will once again be part of the management of the Vitosha facilities. According to Terziev, a way must be found for them to become 100% property of the municipality, so that the interest of the people of Sofia is protected.
The capital's mayor stated that a solution to the problem must be found without disturbing the ecological balance. It is necessary to consider how and by whom to make a sustainable investment, as well as how to connect lifts in a network with guaranteed access for people. We should not just make some elevators that start from nowhere and end up in nowhere, without a concept of how they will be used. Vasil Terziev expressed hope that a solution to this problem would be found.
Terziev emphasized that the case is extremely complex, there are many involved, but it would be irresponsible on the part of the SOS to continue not solving it.
