Sociologist: These elections are full of surprises - 1

"These elections will be surprising because it is very difficult to guess how many voters will go to vote. This makes the predicted results quite uncertain. What the order will be, except for the first one, is not clear. Whatever we do on June 9th, that will be the result. And that statement is truer now than ever. This makes the election full of surprise".

This is the comment to the BNR sociologist Marcela Abrasheva, regional director of the international sociological agency "Kantar". And added:

"What matters for the results is whether such a configuration will be reproduced, which implies talks similar to those we have seen for the last 9 months, or whether some majority of two political forces will be cast to make a completely different form of government and to push the internal politics of the country in a completely different course. Everything depends on the election results, that's why even one or two MPs will matter for the balance of power".

Abrasheva emphasized that all political formations are waiting to see what the balance of power will be in the 50th National Assembly in order to determine their policy:

"This goes some way to explaining the dejected way in which they do not announce what they are going to do. Many more red lines were drawn in previous elections than now.

"It is difficult to get a general sense in the campaign of a big national issue and debates, as if each of the political forces spoke to their constituents in regional meetings, probably. As a general framework, there remains this rather repulsive background of continuous public denunciations and scandals, records and whatever else we can think of. This does not in any way motivate people to go vote, nor does it convince anyone to change their opinion if someone has already decided who to vote for," Marcela Abrasheva also commented.

She allowed for the possibility that in the weeks leading up to the elections on June 9, more compromising materials, records and topics will appear, on which, as before, acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev is suing DANS and the prosecutor's office:

"There's a nervousness about the whole thing.

Intensifying the feeling that everyone is a mask does not help voter turnout, Abrasheva pointed out and added:

"There is a point beyond which whatever else is broadcast, whatever it is, the voter will not believe it.

According to her, there may be a difference in the results of the vote for the National Assembly and for the European Parliament, but there will hardly be a reversal of the results:

"Nothing is impossible, but it seems unlikely to me".
