" Bulgaria's membership in NATO offered Bulgarian citizens the most solid security guarantees. Bulgaria's membership in NATO was a civilizational choice, it was a powerful stimulus for important reforms and contributed to the development of peace and prosperity in the country. This was stated by acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev at the opening of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Sofia, quoted by BNT.
In his words, the drastically deteriorated security environment after the beginning of the Russian military aggression against Ukraine proved that our most basic rights and freedoms can be called into question.
"Put under serious threat. NATO is an immutable guarantor of security and prosperity. We must remain committed to our support for Ukraine and invest much more in defense. We must continue to pursue this course of high ambition in Washington. Ukraine should occupy a central place", commented Dimitar Glavchev.
He explained that improving the interoperability of Ukrainian forces would provide a bridge to future membership.
"We expect that attention will also be paid to the Western Balkans. Ukraine has become the defender of all of Europe. Supporting Ukraine and restoring sovereignty is essential to establishing lasting peace in Europe. Bulgaria remains firmly committed to supporting Ukraine as necessary. We have provided aid - political, military, humanitarian," added Dimitar Glavchev.
According to him, NATO should continue to send a clear message and help to strengthen resilience.
"Guaranteeing the necessary resources is key. Disinformation and other hybrid threats threaten our resilience. In this regard, the proposal to build a center for the sustainability of democracy is gaining more and more importance. NATO's historic achievement is peacekeeping. In 2025, the Parliamentary Assembly will celebrate 70 years since its creation, let's be happy to be part of the Alliance and ready to cooperate even more closely", Dimitar Glavchev also said.
