Political scientist: Hristo Ivanov's resignation is an assumption of responsibility - something that is lacking in Bulgarian politics - 1

In the 50th National assembly, I would like to see politicians who have really taken it upon themselves to talk to the Bulgarian citizens and seek their support for policies and solutions to the real problems of society.

This is what he told Radio "Focus“ the political scientist Hristo Panchugov.

"I hope that before the question of maths and assemblies this time we see a meaningful debate about what the policy is going to be, what the demands are that the political leaders would make and ultimately what they would sacrifice in order to realize these priorities.“

According to him, the Bulgarian society is undergoing a transformation, and the political parties are in a crisis of support and have failed to find mechanisms to motivate their voters and the vast majority of non-voters in recent years. Precisely because of this, according to him, it will be more and more difficult to form a parliamentary majority and it is necessary to apply another approach to policy-making.

According to the political scientist, the possible options for forming a government are the result of illogical arithmetic and, in his words, Bulgarian citizens should be a little more critical of what is offered to them in this parliament.

"I want us to clearly state the boundaries beyond which we would not like to see policy-making and I hope that politicians will be brought into this conversation – about what needs to be done and how it could be done in the best possible way.“

The result of "We continue the change”-"Democratic Bulgaria” is completely legitimate, said the political scientist and explained that the story about the good people being lied to by the bad people in politics no longer finds support among the Bulgarian voters.

"It was about a campaign that further reinforced the sense of bankruptcy, rather than looking for a conversation about how to convince their constituents to vote and how to attract new support,” he explained.

The resignation of Hristo Ivanov as the leader of "Yes, Bulgaria" is taking responsibility – something that has recently been a deficit in Bulgarian politics, also believes Hristo Panchugov. The next step, according to him, is to say how things change after that, how the political formation itself will change, in order to restore trust in itself, he is categorical.

Party "Greatness” is the typical example of the phenomenon characteristic of Bulgarian politics of a new political formation that finds representation in the parliament due to the huge number of non-voters.

"Similar types of formations parasitize on pathologies that are part of Bulgarian society. It is necessary for the normal Bulgarian politics, these political formations that have the pretension of some ideology, to return to the field in which they speak truly about the problems of the Bulgarian citizens and try to solve them,” he is convinced.
