Plovdiv municipal councilors defend the Panagyur gold treasure and do not allow it to be given to the Historical Museum in the capital. Five advisers from the group of “Bravo Plovdiv" have submitted a proposal for this cultural value to remain in the Regional Archaeological Museum in Plovdiv, Plovdiv24.bg found out.

According to the cultural heritage law, the treasure must be kept in Plovdiv, but under a contract with the National History Museum in Sofia, it is provided to the capital. However, the term of the document has already expired and the municipal councilors suggest that it not be renewed.

For this purpose, at the next session on June 20, the Municipal Council will consider a special declaration.

The advisors' motives are related to the fact that the treasure will contribute to the development of Plovdiv and increase the flow of tourists. Among the evidence and examples they give are: the 24-carat Varna treasure, which contains 3,000 jewels and is located in our maritime capital, the Rogozen treasure, which is kept in the museum in Vratsa, and the Lukovit treasure, which is in Lovech.

In their proposal, they recall how the Panagyurishte gold treasure was accidentally discovered by the brothers Pavel, Petko and Mihail Dejkovi in 1949 during excavation work at a tile factory in Panagyurishte. Dimitar Tsonchev from Plovdiv was the first to bring the treasure into the museum's inventory, which sat in the city under the hills until 1982, when it was taken by a government decision and traveled around the world for exhibitions.
