For the last six months, traffic accidents have slightly increased compared to the same period last year, but a decrease in the number of dead and injured is reported. Commissioner Maria Boteva, deputy head of the “Road Police” department, said this for the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA). at the Main Directorate “National Police” of the Ministry of the Interior.

Commissioner Boteva took part in the National Road Safety Day Festival held in Sofia – June 29.

"This is a wonderful approach of the state - to show society that it is concerned about the safety of all road users," said Commissioner Boteva on the occasion of the event. She recalled that by a decision of the Council of Ministers from 2019, today was officially declared the National Road Safety Day.

"Precisely the opportunity to gather all the institutions, apart from them and citizens and non-governmental organizations, associations and associations, suggests to everyone that there are results. We are all in this together and this is the first result. The second is that thanks to our efforts, more people are getting involved," she emphasized.

"Human life has no price. We must fight to ensure that there are no deaths on the road," urged Commissioner Maria Boteva.

Visitors will be able to participate completely free of charge in nearly 30 different activities, demonstrations, games, quizzes, prizes and memorable experiences.

The yellow paving stones of the square will become a playground where children will play with professional animators, solve puzzles, draw, participate in art workshops and educational games for safe behavior on the road. Special simulators have been prepared for young people, where they will be able to drive in a safe environment or see how alcohol affects and how difficult coordination is after its use. Visitors will see live how a transport accident is secured and how human lives are saved, by cutting vehicles, as well as extinguishing a burning car. Specialist vehicles and equipment will be available to view up close, including a fire and emergency vehicle, a fully equipped police patrol, search and rescue equipment and much more. An exhibition of vintage cars will show the evolution of safety systems, and bikers will talk about what to watch out for in the height of the season.

On the spot, everyone will be able to receive advice on the correct and safe driving of children in a car, how to avoid mistakes on the road and what to watch out for. They will be able to participate in open talks, polls and win various prizes.

During the event, the winners of the school competition "Talisman that keeps us on the road" will be announced. and the second annual “Regional and local initiatives to support road safety“ awards.
