Diplomats: We told Brussels: "Give us whatever is left" - 1

Bulgaria has missed its chances to take the serious and prestigious portfolios in the European Union union under the draft composition of the new European Commission. The two diplomats and former foreign ministers of our country, Milen Keremedchiev and Lyubomir Kyuchukov, united around this opinion.

Keremedchiev explained that until now Bulgaria has always presented strong candidates for European Commissioner, but this time it is more than obvious that we have failed.

We have no defined policies in the EU, which is strange to say the least. We took a few chances to get some really good, serious springs. One such portfolio, for example, was that of EU enlargement, as there was a lot of criticism of Oliver Varhey's work.

Lyubomir Kyuchukov, in turn, stated that Bulgaria lacks a long-term policy.

With our approach, we excluded professionalism as a criterion – our resource policy is “Give what is left”. We have not just not fought for a resource, we have not expressed interest. The big problem is that until now we have always filled quotas and filled balances, he commented on the topic.

Kyuchukov emphasized that every department in the EU is an expression of national policy, and it seems that there is none in our country.

„I did not understand what Bulgaria got out of the department for innovation and education in recent years, for which a lot of funds were allocated,” said Kyuchukov.
