Ekaterina Zaharieva and Yulian Popov are the approved from the Council of Ministers applications for a member of the European Commission on behalf of the Republic of Bulgaria.
This was decided at the government meeting. Earlier today, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev thanked all parliamentary groups for their serious attitude to the topic and for the proposed nominations.
Ekaterina Zaharieva was proposed by GERB, and Julian Popov by "We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria".
The candidacies of the two must be presented today to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, by acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev.
Zaharieva was foreign minister in Boyko Borisov's third cabinet. Before that, she was Minister of Justice, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Regional Minister in the offices of Georgi Bliznashki and Marin Raykov.
The minister of ecology in Nikolay Denkov's office was Julian Popov.
