Gas goes up in price by nearly 2% - 1

Natural gas has gone up in price by nearly 2% since today. The Commission for Energy and Water Regulation approved the price of the blue fuel for the next month of BGN 61.91 per megawatt hour. In its initial application dated August 12, "Bulgargaz" predicted a price reduction of about 2% to BGN 59.54/MWh.

According to KEVR, the reason why gas has become more expensive, instead of cheaper, is that due to the price offered by the public supplier, which is much more favorable compared to prices on international markets, customers have submitted requests for additional quantities of gas. This increases the total amount of natural gas to cover monthly consumption and raises the price.

The price mix includes the entire agreed amount of Azeri natural gas delivered via the "Bulgaria" interconnector – Greece" (IGB), under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan. These quantities cover 78.68% of the consumption for September and are important for achieving a favorable price for the blue fuel. As a second source "Bulgargaz" EAD has included quantities of natural gas from extraction from the "Chiren" natural gas processing plant.

However, KEVR notes that regardless of the increase, the price for September is competitive, as it is significantly lower than the TTF reference index of the Dutch gas exchange.

"It is important for the representatives of the Bulgarian business to know that all the necessary actions have been taken to protect the interests of consumers in our country," emphasized the Chairman of KEVR Assoc. Ivan Ivanov at the open meeting on August 28 and pointed out that the daily TTF index rose to 38.8 EUR/MWh, or about BGN 75.85/MWh.
