New Fraud Scheme Gets Around Strict GTR Requirements

Car with Immaculate Records Borrowed to Pass Annual MOT

Car with Immaculate Records Borrowed to Pass Annual MOT (GTP). The fraudulent practice is applied in some points in our country, writes “Telegraph”.

The occupied car is parked behind the actual one on the stand, which is in range of the cameras.

The meter hose is inserted into the car parked behind and its data is read.

This trick actually lies with the data that is automatically fed to the information system of the automobile administration, the former DAI. Thus, the human factor intervenes again and the data from the reviews are manipulated. According to those in the know, similar loopholes are made at specific points, for which information is exchanged between drivers in closed Facebook groups and chat channels in "Telegram". The price of a borrowed car for such a road traffic inspection varies between BGN 100 and BGN 200, the inspection itself is paid separately, which is also between BGN 80 and BGN 100 at different points.

With the option, however, the driver does not risk appearing and failing the inspection, but then paying for it and being forced to fix the malfunctions. This is usually the lack of a catalyst. This saves you headaches, and the point wins twice.

Another scheme to circumvent the real reports to the DAI is the hiring of a catalyst. This happens by placing a Hollander, who unscrews the pipe of the pot, the rented catalyst is placed in its place, after the car passes the GTP, the catalyst is removed and the pipe is returned in its place, and so on until the next inspection.

After the amendments of July 22, the service “catalyst for rent“ is gaining more and more popularity. However, as a service, it is not so new. It has existed in Bulgaria for more than 10 years, but it has rarely been used by drivers until now. “Most cars in our country are driven on gas, in practice the catalyst not only becomes redundant, but also gets in the way. It gets removed because it gets clogged and goes bad. They had a lobbying interest in not allowing cars that are not factory gas-powered to be able to pass GTP. They left it on purpose to measure on gasoline. With gasoline, there is no such tolerance as with diesels, which even without DPF pass GTP without any problem, commented to "Telegraph" driver of a 16-year-old gasoline car.

Other alternatives for drivers are so-called universal catalysts. They are made in China and can last no more than 3 years depending on how the car is used. Their price varies from BGN 100 to BGN 250, depending on the type of catalyst. Experienced drivers advise driving the car to warm up before an accident. It's good to get tired of the more expensive fuel, as well as one of the nice additives.

With gasoline, the problem comes from the fact that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are measured. It turned out that carbon dioxide emissions varied greatly depending on the type of vehicle. A car that had a Euro 1 category now passes to a Euro 3 category. Another with Euro 3 does not get a category. Due to the dissatisfaction of many of the drivers, a change was also necessary, which allows cars with malfunctions related to exhaust gases not to be stopped from moving. The period for troubleshooting should be increased from 14 to 30 days.

In mid-August, hackers managed to hit the information system of the automobile administration.

Computer specialists implemented a "distributed denial of service" (DDoS, Denial-of-service attack). This managed to stop the operation of the GTP system for several hours. The attack was simple but effective, people familiar with the matter said. It usually generates fake traffic, which leads to difficult operation or complete shutdown of a site or system. DAI software is generally very buggy and produces a lot of errors, which makes it even easier for hackers. According to various comments on social networks, a more serious attack is already being planned, which will disable the computers of the automobile administration for at least a few days. The purpose is a protest against the innovations in technical examinations.
