Tomorrow at the Plenum in the SJC we will adopt the time schedule for the election of a new attorney general. Nominations for Attorney General will be made in late September and early October. Borislav Sarafov is the favorite of the Prosecution College for the new chief prosecutor and, in my opinion, he is the most possible candidate. I do not rule out the nomination of Maria Pavlova - Acting Minister of Justice.

That summed it up before "This Morning" on bTV Atanaska Disheva, member of the Supreme Judicial Council.

I have an objection to the conduct of the election for chief prosecutor, she added.

Nominations for Attorney General will be made in late September and early October. This became clear at a meeting of the Prosecutor's College, which decided to propose to the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council to resume the procedure for electing the chief prosecutor and to approve a schedule for its implementation.

According to the schedule, nominations for chief prosecutor will be made at the meetings of the SJC on September 19 and 26, as well as on October 3 and 10. The election itself will take place on January 16, 2025.

The expiration of the SJC's mandate creates a problem with its independence, said Disheva.

There will be a quorum and a majority at tomorrow's meeting, promised the member of the SJC.

I expected the procedure to be launched already in August, she revealed about the selection of prosecutor number 1.

"There are political dependencies - this was seen from all the quick actions and the election of the previous chief prosecutor (note author - Ivan Geshev)".

There is a danger that there will be only one candidate, but also that there will be two or three more who will only create the feeling of a competition, Disheva believes.

"Borislav Sarafov (acting) is the favorite of the Prosecution College for the new chief prosecutor and, in my opinion, is the most possible candidate. I do not exclude the nomination of Maria Pavlova - acting minister of justice."
