A strong earthquake shook Romania this afternoon, but Ruse region remained unaffected by the natural disaster. At 7:30 p.m., regional governor Dragomir Draganov confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or damage in the region. Power supply, water supply and communications are functioning normally.

The seismic tremor, registered at 17:40 Bulgarian time, had a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the area of Vranca, 52 kilometers east of the city of Brasov and 15 kilometers northwest of the city of Nehoyu, at a depth of about 130 kilometers.

The shock was felt not only in Romania, but also in the neighboring countries - Bulgaria, Moldova and Ukraine. Specialists warn of the possibility of aftershocks.

According to the latest data, this is one of the strongest earthquakes recorded in our northern neighbor since the beginning of 2024. Initially, the National Institute of Geophysics of Romania reported a higher magnitude - 5.5, but subsequently corrected the information.
