By order of the mayor of Byala Slatina municipality Eng. Ivo Tsvetkov, responsible persons and deadlines for counting stray dogs have been determined, it became known from the website of the administration. The document states that the trial will continue until September 30.

Two experts from the administration will be responsible for the census in Byala Slatina, and in populated areas the mayors of town halls will be responsible, says the mayor of the municipality in the administrative act.

Each municipality, in the period of March – June or September – November, should organize a census of stray dogs and draw up a protocol within 20 days after completion of the process, according to a letter from the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, sent in January to the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria. The census begins with a notification from the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry to the mayors and is carried out once every two years, according to the National Program for Controlling the Stray Dog Population in the Republic of Bulgaria.

According to the program implementation report for the year 2023, in the entire Vratsa region, "processed" and 681 dogs were returned to their places, and thirty-one were adopted. Two hundred and twenty one are the registered domestic dogs for the year in the district, and in the Integrated Information System of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency – VetIS, 1,272 animals were registered according to registration of residence in Vrachansko.

According to the national report, all ten municipalities have Programs for controlling the dog population, and last year a total of BGN 158,486 was spent on their implementation.
