I do not rule out that ideas will appear again to close the BBR. The topic of whether it should exist has been discussed more than once. This is what the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Bulgarian Development Bank, Delyana Ivanova, said on bTV, quoted by novini.bg.
"If it will serve separate big interests and private ones - it should rather not exist. However, if it operates as a pawn shop - it should not exist either. The only point for it to exist is as an incentive bank and really to be used for what development banks are used for. Namely: to improve well-being and to use for policies sectors that have been defined by the government as priorities for the country“, she added.
BBR turns 25 years old. The bank has made headlines lately with too many scandals and non-refundable loans to big businessmen.
„What the development bank did at the beginning of this year, when by law its three-year strategy had to be made, was to define the priorities for the activities and for the sectors that are important economically for the state. This strategy was approved by the Council of Ministers and, accordingly, we are currently implementing its priorities, Ivanova also said.
She also talked about one of the ways in which BBR supports the industrialization of Bulgaria through products.
„Support is for industrial parks, on the one hand, through support in individual cities. Often these are municipal initiatives. These are public companies with municipal and/or state participation and they have projects with the owners of the industrial parks. They must apply to us and meet certain conditions. A large part of these parks are currently also beneficiaries of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Our main role and first function is to help them succeed in building and completing their investments on time," Ivanova said.
