The Homeland Defense Preparation Act is part of that rapid review of the elements of the national system of security. It covers the general assessment of the shortage of personnel, especially among professional military personnel. This was stated by the former Minister of Defense Angel Naydenov on NOVA NEWS on the occasion of the National Security Advisory Council under the President held today.
When asked if this means the return of mandatory barracks, Naydenov replied that “it takes different forms and is not only based on the return of mandatory military service”.
In short, this law should regulate the people to whom the relevant military training should be directed. In neighboring Serbia, military service was returned within 75 days, which are the beginning of one military training, explained the former Minister of Defense.
Regarding the conflict in the Middle East itself, Angel Naydenov noted that „we are observing the worst possible scenario from the attack of “Hamas” against Israel and the start of Israel's hostilities in Gaza”.
„The two main questions here are how and when Israel will respond to the Iranian missile attack. Strikes are likely to be made on either military sites or energy infrastructure. Of course, strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities are also not excluded, but hopefully it doesn't come to that, Naydenov added.
According to him, it is not necessary for the Bulgarian army to completely take up the security of our state border, given the forecasts of migrant pressure due to the events in the Middle East.
Our army participates in the protection of the state border. Up to 500 members of the Bulgarian Army are involved in the security, together with the forces of the “Border Police”, he added.
