Prof. Milena Stefanova: The parties can't win the attention of the people with anything - 1

I am looking forward to the last week of the election campaign, because the situation is the same, but I do not see to date debates between leaders and discussions. The parties cannot win the attention of the people with anything, political scientist Prof. Milena Stefanova, lecturer at SU "St. Kliment Ohridski".

"A way must be found to arouse the interest of voters. I think in the last week they will try to generate interest, I want a national debate, but not including the traditional messages. Let's hear them, what they would do – first, second, third and with whom. And these are the kinds of things that would win the attention of the voters", comments Prof. Stefanova in the program "12+3".

According to her, today's action in Sofia by the SDVR and the arrests shows that the Ministry of Internal Affairs seeks to neutralize this negative and criminal phenomenon, such as the buying and selling of people's votes.

In the capital, she pointed out that the risky places are the neighborhoods of Suhodol and "Hristo Botev", and in the country, studies show that there are so many risky places and it is interesting what is happening there.

Prof. Stefanova commented on why voting should be done and turnout should be high:

"The more people vote, the more the bought vote falls. By voting more and not selling our votes, the weight of the bought vote is less and it loses importance. Higher voter turnout, because the threshold of 4% in real votes will not be lowered. The third reason to vote is to have the legitimacy of the institution and depends on the high turnout. And the fewer parties there are in the National Assembly, the easier it will be to form a governing coalition."

The political scientist recommended that we think independently and not wait for a messiah who will fix us in 800 days.

"We need a stable National Assembly to radiate a stable executive power and the institutions to work. There will be attempts to influence institutions, and if the control institutions do not work, we will not get rid of them. There are inspectorates and mechanisms that the legislator has foreseen, after all, we are an EU member country, these institutions are in panic, fear and do not work , are conquered. We need a stable parliament, democracy and a government that knows how to govern, not a government of experts brought in from somewhere, we need a clear plan and the control institutions to work", said Prof. Milena Stefanov.
