338 people have died in accidents in the country since the beginning of the year

From the beginning of the year to September 30, a total of nine people between the ages of 0 and 17 in traffic accidents, and 964 were injured, Commissioner Dimitar Michev, head of the “Road Police” department, announced at a briefing. to DG "National Police". Michev noted that a big problem is the wearing of dark clothes by children and emphasized the need for reflective elements on clothing.

Two children under the age of 6 died, and 157 were injured. Between the ages of 6 and 9, one child died and 146 were injured. Between the ages of 10 and 14, there were two dead and 306 injured, and four between the ages of 15 and 17, while 355 were injured.

In the nine months of 2024, a total of 5,408 traffic accidents occurred in the country, in which 338 people died and 6,818 people were injured.

Commissioner Michev also announced that a specialized police operation of the “Road Police” in Dobrich and Yambol, and on October 10 such an operation will take place in Targovishte and
Pazardzhik.

As of today, a police operation has begun for the use of seat belts in cars and child seats when transporting children. Dimitar Michev pointed out that the data is constantly analyzed and where there is a need, police operations are conducted.

The main causes of accidents on the roads are inappropriate speed, taking the right of way and entering oncoming traffic. Most road accidents occur between 5 and 6 p.m., according to the statistics of the Ministry of the Interior. In this interval of the day in the past 9 months, there were also the most deaths - 26. The number of pedestrians killed in accidents was 81, and there was an increase in this indicator.

In the case of violations by young drivers, women with experience of up to 2 years - 13% are at fault, and 8% for men, indicated the Ministry of the Interior. 231 accidents occurred due to the fault of foreign drivers, 17 died and 355 were injured.

For control activity by “Traffic Police” use 299 devices for speed, 804 devices for detecting driving after the use of alcohol, 29 evidence analyzers for alcohol and 300 devices for detecting the presence of drugs, said Commissioner Michev.

Drivers found after using alcohol and drugs are less compared to last year - by 258 and 329, respectively. Since the beginning of the year, 5,723 unlicensed drivers have been found, and 24,527 driver's licenses have been revoked. 2,621 drivers have also been caught driving without a license. the required category. The confiscated motor vehicles for the benefit of the state from August 4, 2023 to October 3, 2024 are 857.

2,228,996 documents were drawn up - fines imposed with an electronic slip and acts for established administrative violations. The issued electronic slips are 1,083,103 pieces. There are a total of 8,356 alcohol acts drawn up, of which 3,249 are for over 1.2 per thousand. Those found to be using drugs and their analogues are 3,126. There are 800 refusals to be tested for alcohol, and 1,260 for drugs.
