From January 1 this year until now, 164 violations of the temporary ban at certain hours for the passage of heavy goods vehicles through Petrokhan Pass. This was announced at a briefing by Chief Inspector Elvis Ivanov, head of the "Traffic Police"-Montana.
He specified that the sanctions are in the amount of BGN 300, as well as the revocation of the driver's license for one month. Violators are mainly foreign drivers, Ivanov added.
The passage of heavy goods vehicles through the Petrokhan pass is allowed at certain times due to the closure of the Mezdra road – Lutidol and construction of the "Novachene" road junction, which is part of the modernization of the first-class road Mezdra - Botevgrad.
The permit sparked a series of protests that began on June 14 this year and continued for more than a month.
The prohibited hours for the passage of heavy goods vehicles are Monday to Friday between 5:00 and 9:00 and 16:00 and 19:00, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays.
